Goals and Objectives

The Erie Psychological Consortium prepares interns for completion of the following goals and objectives:

Goal 1: Develop competency in administration of neuropsychological and psychological instruments

  • Demonstrate competency in administration of various neuropsychological and psychological instruments
  • Demonstrate skill in psychological test selection and administration
  • Develop competency in neuropsychological and psychological test interpretation
  • Develop competency in report writing skills
  • Develop competency in providing feedback to clients regarding the conclusions and recommendations of assessments completed

          Goal 2: Prepare interns to practice as ethical psychologists

          • Understand when to seek consultation and supervision services
          • Develop competency in terms of knowledge of ethics and Pennsylvania law
          • Develop competency in terms of maintaining professional interpersonal behavior
          • Develop competency in providing professional responsibility and documentation
          • Develop competency in terms of recognizing and responding to ethical issues as they emerge in clinical practice

                  Goal 3:   Prepare the intern to provide effective psychotherapeutic interventions to function as an entry level psychologist

                  • Develop competency in theory and application of therapeutic interventions
                  • Develop competency in terms of identifying risk management concerns and establishing patient confidentiality
                  • Develop competency in terms of case conceptualization and develop treatment goals
                  • Develop competency in terms of group therapy skills

                        Goal 4:   Improve an intern’s understanding of cultural diversity perspectives in providing clinical services to individuals of diverse background

                        • Develop competency through articulating the impact of culture on clinical training
                        • Identify the impact of culture in shaping an intern’s world view and personal perception of cultural difference and cultural inclusion
                        • Identify the essential elements of a culturally competent practice
                        • Describe the role of patient, psychologist, and environment, and the impact of culture in developing a therapeutic relationship
                        • Discuss the impact of culture and the development and facilitation of social institutions, therapeutic interventions, and social policy within and surrounding the practice environment
